Firefighters across the country have collected critical funds in the community since 1954 - one dollar at a time - as part of the "Fill the Boot" program for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA).
During this 72nd year of Fill The Boot, your local firefighters are continuing this long-standing tradition, as Los Angeles Fire Department members kick off the annual program raising funds to support MDA's vision to accelerate research, advance care and advocate for the support of MDA families.
"The Los Angeles City Fire Department is proud to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) in support of the families and individuals they serve. "Fill the Boot" is more than a fundraiser -- it is a tradition of compassion, unity, and hope. We're honored to do our part in helping advance research, care, and support for those affected by neuromuscular disease."
- Los Angeles Fire Department Fire Chief Jaime Moore
Dedicated firefighters from your LAFD will hit the streets, asking pedestrians, motorists, customers, and other passersby to donate to MDA on May 19, 20, and 21, 2026 from 8 AM to 2 PM at locations across the city (see list below)
The strong partnership between MDA and the International Association of Firefighters has been in place for more than seven decades. Thanks to your heartfelt kindness, firefighters nationwide have raised in excess of $750 million in that time period to directly support the important work of MDA.
