On 18-19 September, the EU Delegation to Ukraine organised a training session for national and regional media with the participation of the Deputy Ambassador of the European Union to Ukraine Gediminas Navickas.

Over 20 journalists from across Ukraine gathered in Khmelnytskyy for two days of interactive learning with leading experts on EU-related topics.

During the training, participants:

  • deepened their understanding of Ukraine's EU accession process and the broad support that the EU has provided since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion
  • explored the history of the EU's formation, its institutional structure and core values,
  • learned how to identify disinformation about Ukraine's accession to the EU,
  • discovered reliable sources of information on the EU and received practical guidance on producing high-quality media content on EU-related topics.

Beyond the sessions, journalists saw how EU-supported projects are transforming Khmelnytskyy:

Public Trolleybus Transport Modernisation

A €16.55 mln project, with a €2.75 mln EU grant, will purchase 44 energy-efficient trolleybuses, upgrade depots, and improve public transport for all, including people with disabilities and IDPs. This initiative also helps reduce emissions, supporting EU green goals.

Solid Waste Management Project

A €39.1 mln project, with €6.75 mln from the EU, aims to modernise waste management in Khmelnytskyy. It includes new landfills, recycling, and composting facilities, cutting greenhouse gas emissions and aligning with EU environmental standards.

Together, these projects are helping to create a greener and more sustainable future for Khmelnytskyy and Ukraine.
