New York's Governor Congratulates Saints

May 8, 2026
Coming off a stellar season that saw a MAAC championship and a near win over national powerhouse Duke University in the NCAA Tournament, the Siena men's basketball team was invited to the New York State Capitol in Albany on April 27 to gather honors from state politicians.

"Congratulations! You almost took down Duke! You guys are awesome," enthused Gov. Kathy Hochul as she entered the Executive Chambers to greet the team, Siena President Chuck Seifert, Ph.D. and Athletics administrators. She handed each of them a New York State commemorative coin, and forward Isaiah Henderson '29 showed her "The One We Fell For" keepsake cover of Sports Illustrated.

The team was also honored by the State Assembly, hosted by Assemblymember Phil Steck (D-110) and the State Senate, hosted by Senator Jake Ashby (R-43), both of whom issued them state proclamations . Later that afternoon they returned to Town of Colonie Memorial Town Hall in Loudonville to receive congratulations from Town Supervisor Peter Crummey (below, right). News10 ABC covered their day.
