Herb Parsons Refuge and Bill Dance Lake State Fishing Area to Reopen With Enhancements on January 28

JACKSON, Tenn. - The Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) will reopen Herb Parsons Refuge and the Bill Dance Lake State Fishing Area on Wednesday, January 28.

These areas have been closed since July 7, 2025, due to several projects aimed at improving accessibility and functionality. Improvements include renovating the parking area and lowering the lake water level to enhance the fishing habitat. The goal of these upgrades is to improve both the fishing experience and overall visitor enjoyment.

Known as Herb Parsons Lake, the 474-acre property and its 177-acre reservoir in Fayette County were recently renamed the Herb Parsons Refuge and Bill Dance Lake State Fishing Area. This name change was made by the Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission to honor Mr. Herb Parsons and Mr. Bill Dance, whose legacies contribute significantly to Tennessee's natural resources.

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is responsible for protecting, managing, and conserving fish and wildlife species for the benefit of Tennesseans and visitors. The Agency also maintains public safety through law enforcement and safety education on waterways.
