Roxborough Memorial Hospital Honors Lana Norris, RN, as Inaugural DAISY Award Recipient
Philadelphia, PA (May 5, 2025) - Roxborough Memorial Hospital proudly announced Lana Norris, RN, as the first recipient of the esteemed DAISY Award at Roxborough Memorial Hospital. Lana is an exceptional nursing professional whose unwavering dedication to patient care embodies the highest standards of the nursing profession. Recently, she provided extraordinary support to a patient in the ICU who faced significant challenges, including an intellectual disability and blindness. This patient, who arrived requiring intubation and ventilation, quickly became a cherished member of the ICU team, thanks to Lana's steadfast commitment to her well-being.
Throughout the patient's arduous journey, Lana demonstrated remarkable patience and empathy. The process of weaning her off the ventilator was not merely a medical procedure; it demanded a compassionate approach as the patient grappled with her circumstances, often awakening in fear. Lana remained a constant source of support, ensuring the patient felt safe and cared for during this vulnerable time. Her efforts to provide comfort included recognizing the patient's simple yet meaningful request for coffee, which became a symbol of normalcy and care amid the clinical setting.
Lana's compassion extended well beyond the hospital. After the patient was discharged to a skilled nursing facility, she, alongside unit secretary Rita Ann Dayton, took the initiative to locate the group home where the patient was transferred. Their visit on June 12, 2024, served as a beautiful testament to the strong bonds formed during the patient's hospital stay. Bringing coffee to the group home and surprising the patient with their presence brought immense joy, reaffirming her sense of worth. This thoughtful gesture underscored Lana's commitment to nurturing the emotional and psychological aspects of patient care, illustrating that nursing transcends mere physical health.
Lana consistently prioritizes the safety and comfort of her patients, going above and beyond to ensure they feel secure and supported. Her ethical decision-making and accountability reflect the essence of the nursing profession. She advocates for her patients' dignity and humanity, ensuring that every individual receives the respect they deserve.
As an exemplary candidate for the DAISY Award, Lana Norris, RN, exemplifies unwavering dedication to professional and ethical nursing standards. She consistently adheres to the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses, showcasing integrity in her practice. Her commitment to addressing healthcare inequities and advocating for her patients with compassion and respect is commendable. Furthermore, Lana takes responsibility for her professional decisions, actions, and their outcomes, ensuring the highest level of care for her patients while exemplifying respect for the inherent dignity of both her patients and colleagues.
Lana's steadfast commitment to these principles makes her a deserving nominee for the DAISY Award, celebrating her exceptional contributions to nursing and patient care.

About the DAISY Foundation: The DAISY Foundation, a not-for-profit organization, was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who passed away in 1999 at the age of 33 due to complications from an autoimmune disease. The compassionate care that Barnes and his family received from nurses throughout his illness inspired this unique means of recognizing nurses for their profound impact on the lives of patients and families. Each DAISY Award honoree is celebrated at a public ceremony on their unit and receives a certificate, a DAISY Award pin, and a beautifully hand-carved stone sculpture. Additionally, the unit honors their colleague's achievement with Cinnabon cinnamon rolls, a favorite treat of Patrick's during his illness.
