Illinois 84 work in Jo Daviess County begins Aug. 18

JO DAVIESS COUNTY - The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that weather permitting, construction will begin on Illinois 84 in Jo Daviess County on Tuesday, Aug. 18. The nearly 4-mile work zone is located between U.S. 20 north of Galena and the Wisconsin state line.

Work will resurface the road. There will be daily lane closures during the $3.7 million project, which is expected to be completed by the end of November.

Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area and be prepared for slow and stopped traffic. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices, and be alert for workers and equipment.

Over the next six years, IDOT is planning to improve 7,107 lane miles of highway and 8.4 million square feet of bridge deck as part of Rebuild Illinois, which is investing $33.2 billion into all modes of transportation. Accomplishments through Year Seven of Rebuild Illinois include $25.6 billion of improvements statewide to 24,498 lane miles of highway, 959 bridges and 1,475 additional safety improvements.
