PITTSBURGH - Brother's Brother Foundation (BBF), a non-profit organization based in Pittsburgh, donated a mobile health van today to the Allegheny Health Network (AHN) Center for Inclusion Health (CIH). A group of leaders from AHN and BBF gathered for a ribbon-cutting and ceremonial key exchange, preceding a mobile event hosted by AHN CIH offering low-to-no-cost medical care and access to a range of other health and social services.
The 21-foot van, known as the 'Inclusion Health mobile clinic,' is outfitted with a reticulating exam table, sink and refrigerator for vaccine storage. Providers will have ample storage space for needed equipment and supplies. This is the second donation of its kind by BBF to AHN.
The mobile clinic will be used routinely to provide health screenings and exams across Western Pennsylvania for adults who experience social vulnerability and insufficient access to health care programs and services. Following each exam, the care team will work to connect patients with local health and social resources.
The vehicle will also be stationed at all CIH mobile events, including the event today in West Mifflin. The events provide access to wrap-around resources, such as health assessments, testing for HIV/Hep-C, distribution of food/hygiene products/clothing, linkage to housing services, Veteran Affairs representation, and more. Also onsite are representatives from various CIH programs including its Healthy Food Center, Immigrant & Refugee Program and LGBTQ+ Care Program.
Recognizing the interconnectedness of human and animal well-being, AHN CIH also collaborates with animal welfare organizations at many of its mobile events to provide low- to no-cost veterinary care services, as well as health care and support services for pet owners.
"We are extremely grateful to Brother's Brother Foundation for this significant donation, which enables us to expand our Urban Health Outreach program and reach even more people across our region, guiding them toward improved health and wellness," said Liz Cuevas, MD, division chief, AHN CIH.
Founded in 1958, BBF helps bridge the gap between aid and sustainability by supporting localized programs and providing essential resources in the areas of health care, infrastructure, disaster response and education.
This latest donation from the Foundation to AHN is an extension of AHN's and Highmark's efforts to address the social determinants of health and support those who are marginalized and socially vulnerable.
"BBF is delighted to continue our long-standing partnership with AHN and support CIH's tremendously impactful work in the community. We look forward to collaborating with Dr. Cuevas and her team in assisting some of the most vulnerable members of society," said Ozzy Samad, president, Brother's Brother Foundation.
