Today's announcement by the European Commission that it has levied fines against Apple and Meta for violating the opaque rules of the Digital Markets Act is concerning. The upshot of the Commission's actions is that it will limit these companies' ability to develop and provide quality products and services to their customers and to compete in the EU. Both companies have engaged extensively with the Commission and have taken steps to address and comply with changes that the Commission had sought, only to have the goalposts repeatedly move.
