Gov. Rhoden Breaks Ground on SDNG Vehicle Maintenance Shop
PIERRE, S.D. - Today, Governor Larry Rhoden supported the South Dakota Army National Guard by hosting a groundbreaking ceremony for their new Watertown Vehicle Maintenance Shop. You can find a photo from the groundbreaking here.
"This investment sends a clear message: South Dakota supports our soldiers," said Governor Larry Rhoden. "In my State of the State Address, I declared that national security is South Dakota's next big industry, and this project supports that mission. This groundbreaking isn't just about a building. It's about the men and women who serve, it's about readiness, and it's about delivering results for South Dakota."
The state-of-the-art facility will support field-level maintenance, repairs, and technical inspections on ground vehicles, equipment, and weapons systems for the 147th Field Artillery.
Designed for 26 full-time personnel, the flexible facility will allow for future expansion as the needs of the South Dakota Army National Guard change. It will also provide an updated space for Soldiers to maintain proficiency in their specialized skills and ensure high equipment readiness levels for future state and federal missions.
"Infrastructure projects such as this are essential to the South Dakota National Guard's mission success," said Maj. Gen. Mark Morrell, SDNG Adjutant General. "They enhance our operational capabilities, ensure our citizen warriors have the resources they need, and strengthen our commitment to the communities we serve."
Governor Rhoden also proclaimed the month of May as Military Appreciation Month to recognize the service of our brave soldiers and their families.
