Ohio Lawmakers Introduce Bill to Remove Sales Tax on Service Animals

State Representative Gary Click (R- Vickery) has introduced House Bill 816, legislation that would eliminate sales tax on the purchase of service animals, including service dogs.

"Like many of my bills, this legislation is a direct response to input from a local constituent," said Rep. Click. "Officially dubbed Brian's Law, this legislation will not only help him but will ease the financial burdens of many others who scrimp and save to make these necessary purchases."

House Bill 816 works to make service animals more affordable for individuals who rely on them for daily living, mobility, and support. Service animals often require significant financial investment due to specialized training and care. By removing sales tax, the bill seeks to reduce the overall cost burden associated with obtaining these highly trained animals.

The bill now awaits a committee assignment.
