Tarleton State Softball’s win streak ends at 10 as Texans one-hit shoutout Cardinals before dropping Game 2 splitting doubleheader

BEAUMONT, Texas - Tarleton State headed back on the road once again, this time a trip to the Cardinals of Lamar for a doubleheader splitting the two-game set as the Purple and White one-hit shutout the Red and White Tuesday.

The two road games start a stretch of games where Tarleton State will play the next nine out of 10 on the road vs. four different opponents.

The Texans came into the midweek doubleheader clash riding a nine-game win streak looking to extend it and did just that, a game more. The Purple and White held the Red and White to just one hit in game one as Tarleton State shutout Lamar 1-0 to secure their 10th win in a row. The 10 wins in a row tied the longest winning streak in the Division I era for the Texans that was set back in 2022.

Two out of 14 innings was the difference on Tuesday as each team shutout each other in back-to-back games with a combined three runs on the day.

Game 1 of the day was highlighted by who continued her dominance in the circle as she struck out eight in just four innings of work to bring her total to 131 in her first collegiate season.

In the bottom of the seventh with the winning run on at first for the Cardinals, re-entered the game after tossing the first three scoreless innings. The freshman ace wasted no time showing why she's the best as she struck out the first two batters face swinging while she froze the final batter to strike out the side looking and hand the Texans their 28th overall win and 10th straight.

For the Texans, Schultz (W, 12-3) earned the start and picked up her 12th win of the season moving to 12-3 on the year. The freshman southpaw went four innings allowing no runs on no hits as she struck out eight and walked just a single batter facing the minimum. tossed the middle three innings allowing just a single hit as she faced the minimum. took the circle for the Texans in the top of the seventh before she was unable to record an out and Schultz took back over. During Rehmeier's time in the circle, she allowed no runs on no hits and walked a pair.

For the Cardinals, Madison Guidry (L, 5-5) tossed a complete game as she picked up her fifth loss of the year moving to .500 in the circle. During her seven innings she allowed the winning run (unearned) on four hits while she walked two and struck out three.

Game 2 was another low scoring game where runs were at a premium as the Texans ended up on the wrong side of things as they took their first loss in 18 days.

The bottom of the first made all the difference as the Cardinals scored two runs in what was the winning runs in Game 2.

In the bottom of the first, Veronica Harrison doubled down the left field line scoring Jayne Sepulvenda to make it 1-0. Trinity Brandon then doubled to left center scoring Harrison before she was thrown out at third from left to make it 2-0, the final.

For the Texans, (L, 3-2) took the circle as she went just an inning. She allowed two runs (both earned) on three hits as she struck out one. then took over going the next three innings. She gave way to just two hits as she sat down a pair. Rehmeier then entered the circle for the second time on the day, first of Game 2 as she went two innings this time. She allowed just two hits.

Tarleton State will now have a pair of days off before heading to Abilene Christian Friday-Saturday for a three-game WAC series. While the Texans have clinched a spot in the WAC Tournament with a clean sweep of Utah Valley this past weekend, the series with the Wildcats is ultra-important for the Purple and White to keep their top-two spot in the conference.
