Gilbert Fire and Rescue Orders Evacuation of 1111 North Gilbert Road Due to Structural Safety Concerns

GILBERT, Ariz. - Gilbert Fire and Rescue has determined that the property at 1111 North Gilbert Road poses an immediate safety risk, necessitating a full evacuation and closure. On June 1, the property owner was formally notified of the evacuation order. Given the severity of the situation, tenants were notified to collect essential belongings and vacate the premises.

During multiple inspections, Gilbert Fire and Rescue identified separation in load-bearing walls and other foundation issues at the property. These findings suggest potential structural instability. The building will remain closed until the property owner completes all repairs necessary to meet established safety standards. Should the property owner provide verified documentation confirming that specific portions of the structure are safe for occupancy, Gilbert Fire and Rescue, in coordination with the Town's Development Services Department, may authorize reopening those individual suites on a case-by-case basis. In the interim, the site will be secured with perimeter fencing.

"Our first obligation is always the safety of the people in our community. When structural concerns reach a level that poses an immediate risk, we have to act," said Gilbert Fire Chief Rob Duggan. "We recognize this is a hardship for tenants and businesses, and we are committed to supporting them through this process while ensuring the property meets every required safety standard before anyone returns."

Town staff and support resources are available to assist displaced tenants. For businesses impacted by this closure, in partnership with the Gilbert Chamber of Commerce, Gilbert's Economic Development team is available at no cost to help navigate immediate needs, including identifying available buildings and land, support with planning, permitting and licensing, labor market analysis, and community-based research. Businesses are encouraged to reach out directly at [email protected] for assistance.

The Town recognizes that situations like this are deeply disruptive and that having to vacate an unsafe building is very difficult. The safety and well-being of every person in our community must come first, and the Town of Gilbert remains committed to seeing this through until the property owner makes the necessary repairs and this property meets every standard required to protect the people who occupy it.
