Secretary Mullin and CBP Commissioner Rodney Scott Tour Border Wall in Arizona

Secretary Mullin and Commissioner Scott observed ongoing construction along the southern border

WASHINGTON - On Thursday, United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Markwayne Mullin, along with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Commissioner Rodney Scott, visited the southern border in Arizona for a tour of the border wall.

Secretary Mullin and Commissioner Scott observed ongoing construction on secondary barriers and met with construction crews as the Trump Administration marked 17 months of ZERO releases of illegal aliens at the southern border. The latest data from CBP also revealed that Fiscal Year 2026 saw the lowest amount of border crossings of any fiscal year in American history.

"Under the Biden Administration, there was no national security, because you can't have national security if you don't know who's inside the country," said Secretary Mullin. "A secure border, and knowing who's entering your country, is where you can start actually saying we have national security. The American people deserve to be safe in their cities, in their towns, on their streets, and in their neighborhoods. Thanks to President Trump's bold leadership, we have had ZERO illegal aliens released into our country for the past 17 straight months-that's promises made, promises kept in action."

In Fiscal Year 2026, CBP completed construction of 250 miles of new border barrier along the southwest border since January 20, 2025. This includes primary and secondary barriers, waterborne barriers, and supporting technology.

Funding from the Working Families Tax Cut Act enabled CBP to accelerate Smart Wall construction. From September 2025 through September 2026, CBP obligated $34.3 billion to support Smart Wall projects across all southwest border states, cementing a generational investment in physical security and operational control.
