UPDATE AS OF 10/13/25: Nightly Full Closures Monday through Friday and Day and Weekend One-Way Traffic Control on State Route 84 (Niles Canyon) in Unincorporated Sunol

Alameda County - Caltrans has implemented full night closures and one-way traffic control on State Route 84 (Niles Canyon) in Unincorporated Sunol at post mile 15.5, near Niles Canyon Railway Brightside Yard. Work will include installing and connecting specially designed guardrails to the newly constructed bridge on eastbound State Route 84. This work is scheduled to be completed by 11/22/2025. See below for nightly closures and one-way traffic controls schedule.

One-Way Traffic:

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday 5 AM-8 PM
Saturday 5 AM through Monday 8 PM (One-Way traffic during these hours).

Nightly Full Freeway Closures:

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday 8 PM to 5 AM (Detour required).

**All work is weather dependent. **

    • NB/SB I-680 to SR-238
    • SR-238 back to NB/SB I-680

Caltrans advises motorists to allow extra travel time and use alternate routes when possible. Caltrans appreciates the public's patience while this critical safety improvement work is completed.
