Mario Harik, chair and chief executive officer of XPO, Inc., will discuss how a performance-driven culture and advanced technology are reshaping success in the freight transportation industry, during the 44th Annual William A. Patterson Distinguished Transportation Lecture at Northwestern University.

"People, Technology and the Future of Freight" will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 13, at the Walter Athletic Center Auditorium, 2255 N. Campus Drive, on the Evanston campus. Sponsored by the Northwestern University Transportation Center, the free lecture is open to the public, but registration is required.

The event will feature a fireside chat with alumnus Andrew Boyle, former co-president of specialized trucking firm Boyle Transportation and former chair of the American Trucking Associations.

As CEO of XPO, Harik leads the company's overall strategy, including investments in customer service and employee satisfaction, and oversees the company's proprietary technology. Prior to joining XPO, Harik held positions as chief information officer and senior vice president of research and development at Oakleaf Waste Management, chief technology officer at Tallan, Inc. and co-founder and chief architect of web and voice applications at G3 Analyst. He earned a master's degree in engineering and information technology from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a degree in computer and communications engineering from the American University of Beirut in Lebanon.
