Trash Pick Up Collection Update

Update as of July 14th at 5:00 p.m.

The City of Placentia has been informed by Republic Services that picketing activity associated with the recent sympathy strike has officially concluded and their driver workforce is now fully staffed and in service as of today. We sincerely thank the community for its patience and understanding as Republic Services works diligently to recover from the recent service disruption.

Current Status of Waste Collection

  • Waste collection delays may still be experienced as Republic works to complete missed pickups from earlier this week.
  • Residents are advised to continue leaving out their trash, yard waste, and recycling bins at the curb until service occurs.
  • Republic Services is following a priority order for collection:
    • Trash
    • Organics/Yard Waste
    • Recycling

Recovery Strategy and Timeline from Republic Services

Republic Services has provided the following recovery plan and projected timeline:

Deployment Strategy

  • Commercial accounts were prioritized during the work stoppage.
  • Now, with full staffing restored, crews are executing a route-based recovery plan, beginning with the oldest uncollected residential stops and progressing forward by service day and waste type.

Projected Recovery Timeline

  • Commercial Recovery:
    • On track for completion by Wednesday, July 16.
  • Residential Recovery:
    • Wednesday, July 9 pickups: 100% complete (trash, organics, and recycling).
    • Thursday, July 10 pickups: Approximately 50% complete and progressing.
    • Full residential recovery is targeted by Monday, July 21 or Tuesday, July 22, depending on route familiarity of temporary support drivers.

Republic Services continues to operate with full staffing, weekend overtime, and extended hours through Sunday to restore normal service as quickly as possible.

Update as of July 11th at 5:00 p.m.

A temporary roll-off bin has been placed at Kraemer Memorial Park for residents who need to dispose of excess household trash. Please note: only bagged trash should be dropped off. Do not leave or drop off your trash carts.

Additionally, residents may bring bagged trash directly to the Republic Services facility located at 2740 East Coronado Street in Anaheim. The facility is open Monday through Friday from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturdays from 5 a.m. to 2 p.m. Proof of residency is required.

We thank you for your patience and understanding as we work with Republic Services to restore full service. For questions or updates, please call (714) 238-3300.

Update as of July 11th at 9:00 a.m.

The City of Placentia has been notified by Republic Services that labor-related demonstrations continue to impact waste collection throughout the region. As a result, some residential and commercial customers may experience ongoing service delays on Friday, July 11th.

Residents are advised to leave their trash, recycling, and yard waste bins out at the curb on their regular collection day. If service is missed, please continue to leave your bins out for potential make-up service on through the weekend.

Republic Services has indicated that, if necessary, waste collection may be prioritized in the following order:

  1. Trash carts

  2. Yard waste carts

  3. Recycling carts

These delays stem from a union strike taking place in the Boston area. While there is no strike in Placentia, some local workers are picketing in solidarity with East Coast union members. Republic Services has activated contingency plans to minimize disruptions and is working toward restoring regular service as soon as possible.

Residents in homeowners association (HOA) communities are encouraged to contact their management companies for specific guidance regarding service updates.

The City understands the inconvenience these delays may cause and appreciates the community's patience during this time. We will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.

For questions or more information, please contact Republic Services directly at (714) 238-3300.
