At Tampa Electric, we're in the middle of a multi-year program to modernize our electric grid to meet our region's future demands - from smart appliances to electric vehicles to data centers, renewable energy systems and energy storage.

The improvements will enhance electric reliability and enable our customers to produce and consume electricity in innovative ways.

Our goal is to keep power as affordable as possible and always on, ensuring energy access now and in the future.

What is Grid Modernization?

Our industry-leading, future-focused plan matches the demands of our fast-growing customer base with modernized grid capabilities. Our plan has three main parts:

1. An "always on" customer experience
2. A flexible and adaptable grid
3. Maximized grid performance

Supporting our grid modernization initiative are our Storm Protection Plan that strengthens the grid and our Advanced Distribution Infrastructure program that enhances grid intelligence.

Always On Energy

We aim to reduce the annual average outage time per customer by 50% by 2030 by:

• Reducing outages and improving resiliency with our Storm Protection Plan.
• Building more capacity for power and communication, including a secure wireless network as the backbone of an intelligent, adaptable grid.
• Fully automating the grid to help manage solar energy, energy storage and electric vehicle charging.

Reliable and Adaptable Energy

Our Advanced Distribution Infrastructure program upgrade will allow us to manage electricity more effectively and gather real-time data to quickly address issues. It will also enable customers to easily connect their electric vehicles and solar power systems and enhance our ability to virtually see and control the grid with a new control center and improved energy management capabilities.
