FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Arlington, Va.
-

NTCA-The Rural Broadband Association today applauded the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation for advancing the Modernization, Accountability, and Planning (MAP) for Broadband Funding Act. The legislation, which was introduced by Sen. Deb Fischer (R- Neb.), provides oversight of the FCC Broadband Funding Map to ensure it functions as intended for broadband providers, policymakers and the public.

The bill directs the commission to explore how to improve the map's usability and transparency and requires the Government Accountability Office to evaluate whether federal agencies are accurately and consistently reporting broadband funding data.

"Accurate broadband maps and data are essential to ensuring that federal dollars are targeted to the communities where they are needed the most," said NTCA CEO Shirley Bloomfield. "NTCA and its members thank Senator Fischer for leading this critical legislation and look forward to continuing to work with her to bridge the digital divide and advance the mission of universal connectivity for all Americans."
