Outcome of Korea-India Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (October 26)

On October 26, Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Hyun, while in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, accompanying President Lee Jae Myung on his visit to the country for the 2025 ASEAN Summit and Related Summits, held his second bilateral meeting with External Affairs Minister of India Subrahmanyam Jaishankar since taking office. The two ministers exchanged views on high-level exchanges, practical cooperation and regional affairs.

Minister Cho underscored that the two ministers met once again just two months after his bilateral visit to India in August, thereby continuing close high-level exchanges between Korea and India. He also said that the Korean government seeks to diversify its partners amid the evolving international order, adding that, as part of such efforts, it will further advance its Special Strategic Partnership with India which marks its 10th anniversary this year.

Minister Jaishankar highly appreciated Minister Cho's commitment to advancing Korea-India relations, as demonstrated by his bilateral visit to India shortly after taking office in August, and emphasized that India attaches great importance to its relations with Korea. He went on to express India's intention to further elevate bilateral ties with Korea through strategic communication and deepened all-around cooperation.

The two ministers agreed to further invigorate summit- and other high-level exchanges, and Minister Jaishankar invited President Lee to visit India at a mutually convenient time.

The two ministers appreciated that Korean companies are engaged in active investment and production activities in India, and agreed to further expand cooperation not only in trade and investment but also in economic security including for supply chains and critical technologies, as well as defense and relevant industries. In this regard, Minister Cho requested the Indian side's attention to and support for Korean companies operating in India.

The two ministers also engaged in an in-depth exchange of views on the situation on the Korean Peninsula as well as regional and global affairs.
