Presentation of the outcomes of the Fourth Dushanbe Water Conference at the United Nation

On the margins of the 2026 High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF), the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Tajikistan to the United Nations, jointly with the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA), in collaboration with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), organized a side event entitled "From Dushanbe to HLPF and Abu Dhabi: Harnessing Multilateral Processes to Accelerate Water Action for Sustainable Development."

In his statement, Permanent Representative of Tajikistan to the UN Mr. Jonibek Hikmat emphasized that the Dushanbe Conference, held under the theme "Reuniting the World for Water," brought together more than 2,500 participants from over 110 countries and served as an important milestone in advancing the implementation of the Water Action Decade and Sustainable Development Goal 6.

He highlighted the Conference's principal outcomes, including the adoption of the Dushanbe Declaration, the Co-Chairs' Summary, and the Dushanbe Contribution to the 2026 United Nations Water Conference. These documents consolidate key recommendations, voluntary commitments and partnerships that will contribute to the preparations for the 2026 United Nations Water Conference in Abu Dhabi and the final review of the Water Action Decade in 2028.

Ambassador Hikmat also presented the initiative of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation, H.E. Mr. Emomali Rahmon, on the establishment of a Dushanbe Water Framework as a forward-looking platform for global water cooperation beyond 2030. He noted that the proposed Framework aims to build on the achievements of the Water Action Decade and the Dushanbe Water Process while strengthening coordination, implementation and partnerships to accelerate global water action.
