The Metro Public Health Department (MPHD) will kick off its annual flu shot campaign with a pop-up flu shot clinic this week, ahead of the Thursday, October 9 Metro Council meeting. Free flu shots will be available on the second-floor mezzanine at the Historic Courthouse and City Hall from 3:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. No appointments, insurance or other coverage are needed. Everyone six months of age and older is welcome to receive a free flu shot at the pop-up clinic.
"Getting a flu shot now is a great way to stay ahead of flu season and keep yourself protected as #NashvilleFightsFlu," said Dr. Sanmi Areola, MPHD Director of Health. "The fall and winter months always include a lot of exciting gatherings. Getting your flu shot helps keep those plans intact so you can create lots of great new memories."
MPHD offered flu shots ahead of the Metro Council meeting on October 1, 2024, at the invitation of Vice Mayor Angie Henderson. 85 flu shots were administered at last year's event.
"It is important that elected officials set a positive example by listening to the guidance of public health experts. Council Members and I participate in meetings and service projects all across Nashville, and we can help keep ourselves and our neighbors healthy by being vaccinated against the flu. I hope folks who live and work downtown will join us and take advantage of this opportunity on October 9, " said Vice Mayor Henderson.
Thursday's event is the first free flu shot event of the year for the Metro Public Health Department, ahead of MPHD's annual #FightFlu Day scheduled for Tuesday, October 21. Three separate sites across the city will be offering drive-thru or walk-up flu shots free of charge. The Lentz Public Health Center will serve as a drive-thru clinic between 7:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. in the parking lot at 2500 Charlotte Avenue. Flu shot clinics will also be set up at the Goodlettsville Branch of the Nashville Public Library from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and at the Madison Branch of the Nashville Public Library from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. After October 21, flu shots will be available free of charge in MPHD clinics throughout the rest of flu season.
Public Health officials urge everyone six months of age and older to consider receiving a flu shot this year. Those who are at high risk for severe illness from influenza are especially encouraged to receive a flu shot. This year's flu shot is formulated to protect against three separate flu strains.
