Ricketts Votes to Protect College Sports

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, the Senate passed the Protect College Sports Act. U.S. Senator Pete Ricketts (R-NE) is a cosponsor of this legislation introduced by Senate Commerce Committee Chairman Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Ranking Member Maria Cantwell (D-WA).

"College sports are one of Nebraska's greatest traditions," said Sen. Ricketts. "I am proud to support this bill to protect opportunities for our student-athletes.

"This bill helps to stabilize the current chaotic state of name, image, and likeness regulations. Senate Republicans and Democrats worked together to solve a problem affecting student-athletes, schools, and everyone who enjoys watching college sports. Our young women and men deserve a fair and organized experience. This bill is an important step in the right direction and will preserve the great collegiate sports tradition for generations to come."

The Protect College Sports Act is endorsed by 28 collegiate athletic conferences, including the Big Ten, and more than 370 colleges and universities nationwide.

The Senate passed this bill with a final vote of 77-22.
