LVC Names Newest HACC Full-Tuition Scholar

Lebanon Valley College announced Preston McVoy '28 as the newest recipient of LVC's full-tuition scholarship for Harrisburg Area Community College graduates. McVoy received his associate's degree in Psychology in May.

McVoy will continue studying Psychology at LVC, a career sparked by life experiences.

"If I can help someone with their mental trauma, anxieties, or prevent a life from being gone too soon, that impacts the world," said McVoy. "My reasons have become stronger as I learned more. Overall, I love psychology as an interesting form of study, and as a tool that we can use to better ourselves and the people around us."

Lebanon Valley's small class sizes and beautiful campus initially attracted McVoy, but his personalized experience during a visit cemented his decision.

"Many colleges I visited were big universities with grand visit tours, PowerPoints, etc.," said McVoy. "While nice, it felt like everyone got the exact same speech, information, and advice, no matter their major or interests. At LVC, though, it was a whole different ball game. I had a private meeting to discuss MY plans. It didn't feel like LVC was trying to get me here as another roster statistic. It generally felt like I would get the best help to achieve my dreams. I knew LVC would be my dream since that first visit."

McVoy credits his family and girlfriend's support for giving him confidence in his abilities to become a successful college student. At LVC, he looks forward to meeting new people, which he says is one of the best parts of college.

"Having these new experiences back-to-back-to-back can be scary, even for students like me who already have some credits under our belt," said McVoy. "I think getting to share these experiences with other people who have similar emotions makes it less scary. You find out that you're often not the only one with these feelings of anxiety. I believe that builds confidence for students to try more things and builds a stronger community overall."
