Strengthening the single market and simplification for the benefit of businesses and consumers

Strengthening the single market and simplification for the benefit of businesses and consumers

13.2.2026

Question for written answer E-000640/2026
to the Commission
Rule 144
Dimitris Tsiodras (PPE)

The Eu's single market strategy includes proposals to address the top ten barriers preventing the EU from making full use of this unique advantage.

A key part of this is to cut red tape and simplify the legislative framework, with a view to lower costs, higher productivity and a better functioning single market.

Removing these barriers and completing the single market will at the same time facilitate growth and business by enhancing market access, in particular for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and innovative companies, and can create more choice for consumers, with lower prices.

However, progress towards these objectives should be made in a clear and measurable way.

In light of the above, can the Commission say:

  • 1.How and with what indicators will it assess progress towards these objectives?
  • 2.How will it support Member States in further simplifying national rules and improving coordination between the different competent national authorities in order to effectively implement and address the fragmentation of the single market?
