Fire Safety and Wildfire Preparedness
Fire Evacuation Route Plan
The City updated its Fire Evacuation Route Plan in 2022. The document is intended to be a guide or starting point for understanding unique issues and challenges in various parts of the City. It should be noted that depending on where and when a fire occurs, first responders (fire fighters and police officers) will make adjustments and changes to the evacuation routes for safety and operational reasons. The updated plan is now available to view or download.
If you have comments, questions, or suggestions regarding the plan, please send them to cityhall@westlakehills.gov.
Wildfire Preparedness Message from Travis County Water District 10
Travis County WCID 10 remains committed to ensuring its water delivery system is robust in the event of wildfire.
The District has completed approximately 20 projects over the past 8 years dedicated to upgrading infrastructure in vulnerable areas, most being bond projects that garnered overwhelming support by the community. Next steps for Water District 10 will be adding additional water storage, replacing aging infrastructure, continuing to increase pipe sizing in identified areas of the District and continuing its fire hydrant replacement program.
All new homes and any home remodel or addition exceeding 50% of the original footprint are required to install fire suppression systems within WCID 10 boundaries. These efforts with support from ESD 9 and the City strongly confirm that wildfire prevention remains at the forefront. The District staff has immensely benefited from preparedness training hosted by the City and ESD 9, implementing strategies and shining light on areas to address.
