Mayor Visits Historic 'Big Boy' Steam Locomotive

Mayor Lori Klein Quinn made a special stop in Old Town Spring to see the iconic Big Boy Train, one of the largest steam locomotives ever built. This engineering marvel, weighing over 1.2 million pounds and stretching 132 feet long, was designed to haul heavy freight over the steep terrain of the Wasatch Mountains. Only 25 Big Boy locomotives were built between 1941 and 1944, with Union Pacific No. 4014 being one of the few still in operation today. During her visit, Mayor Quinn was joined by Judge Laryssa Korduba, Harris County Justice of the Peace Precinct 4; Kent Clingerman from Harris County Precinct 3 Commissioner Tom Ramsey's office; Brandy Beyer, Vice President of the Greater Tomball Area Chamber of Commerce; and Union Pacific representatives. Over 3,000 train enthusiasts from the North Houston area attended the event, celebrating the rich railroad history and the awe-inspiring legacy of the Big Boy Train.

Big Boy will be in the Bryan-College Station area on Tuesday, October 8th. Click here for the rest of the Texas leg of the tour.
