The State of MSME 2025 reveals the challenges and contributions of the backbone of the Salvadoran economy

San Salvador, October 6, 2025 - In an effort to highlight the challenges, contributions, and potential of micro and small enterprises (MSEs) in El Salvador, the Fundación de Apoyo Integral (FUSAI) held an event to present its annual report, "The State of MSEs 2025: The Other Side of the Economy," with the support of the DINAMICA II Initiative.

One of the main findings of the report, released through the MSME Observatory, shows that the contribution of formal and informal micro and small enterprises is close to 48.8% of GDP. It also identifies the main challenges facing the sector: the gap between business optimism and actual results, the impact of over-indebtedness and usury, the financial exclusion of the most vulnerable micro-enterprises, the still limited and uneven digitization, as well as the burden of the economy that falls mainly on women entrepreneurs.

Thanks to the relevance of its data, this tool has become strategic for decision-making and public policy definition, as it offers reliable and up-to-date information directly from entrepreneurs.

The presentation of the report was an event that convened more than 100 attendees who also participated in Plaza MYPE 2025, a space dedicated to 10 Salvadoran micro and small businesses to showcase their products and services. Among them were beneficiaries of the DINAMICA II Initiative, who demonstrated how this support drives innovation and strengthens their businesses.

The DINAMICA II Initiative strengthens the business ecosystem for new, young, and innovative MSMEs, while also promoting access to adequate and sustainable financial services. Within this framework, coordinated work with institutions such as FUSAI makes it possible to develop efforts that provide relevant information about the sector.
