Construction Prompts Closure of SR 53 in Jackson County

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - As part of the upcoming culvert replacement project on State Route 53 in Jackson County, the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) will temporarily close a section of SR 53 near Hurricane Branch Lane to allow crews to safely complete this critical work.

The closure is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, and is expected to remain in place for approximately 50 days, weather permitting. During this time, a signed detour will be posted, and drivers should plan for additional travel time.

TDOT will host a voluntary community meeting to present project details and answer questions from the public. Residents, business owners, and other stakeholders are encouraged to attend and learn more about the project timeline, traffic impacts, and safety measures.

The meeting will take place on:
Date: Monday, February 23, 2026
Time: 5:00 p.m. CST
Location: Jackson County Courthouse, 101 Main Street, Gainesboro, TN

TDOT representatives will provide an overview of the project. The closure is necessary to replace a failing culvert that poses a significant safety risk.
