Washington (February 23, 2026) - Senator Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.), who is boycotting Donald Trump's State of the Union address, announced that Gladys Vega, President and CEO of La Colaborativa will be his guest to the "People's State of a Union." Since 1990, Vega has been providing critical resources and support to Chelsea and the Greater Boston region, empowering Latino individuals and families, promoting educational opportunities, advocating for social justice, and fostering economic empowerment.
"Gladys Vega embodies the type of leadership we need at this moment-community-focused, strategic, energetic, and filled with empathy," said Senator Markey. "Even before these dark times, Gladys' crusade inspired us all to understand that the fight for justice and freedom is not a solitary endeavor. Gladys is the type of neighbor we all wish to have, the type of friend we all need, and the type of trailblazer we should all look up to. She creates environments for the development of small businesses and entrepreneurs, she organizes teams to address food insecurity, she provides support to the immigrant community, and she brings people together with joy even amidst pain. The word 'impossible' is not in her vocabulary. Gladys Vega is a hero, and I am proud to have her join me in Washington DC to fight for where the real power lies with our country - the people."
"As one of the communities in Massachusetts hardest hit by the cruel, unjust tactics of ICE, we're grateful for Senator Markey's steadfast leadership, courage, and support," said Gladys Vega. "From fighting for our immigrant community's fundamental rights to championing resources for schools, housing, small businesses, and neighborhoods, for decades, Senator Markey has stood with us as an invaluable ally."
