SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Described as dynamic' and 'exciting' by Erin Kouwe, a Slippery Rock University assistant professor of dance, SRU Dance Theatre's Emerging Artist Concerts returns with new performances by current SRU students and guests, Jan. 31 to Feb. 1

The SRU Dance Theatre will host two showings of its Emerging Artists Dance Concert, 7:30 p.m., Jan. 31, and 4 p.m., Feb. 1, at Miller Theater in the Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased online at sru.edu/tickets.

The concert will feature the choreography of nine SRU dance students with guest choreographers Cameron McKinney, a New York City-based choreographer and educator, and Staycee Pearl, a Pittsburgh-based choreographer and co-artistic director of PearlArts Movement & Sound.

"Student choreographers work incredibly hard on their pieces," said Kouwe, who serves as the concert's production coordinator. "Audiences can expect deep reflection expressed through movement. In this concert in particular, students are embracing choreography as a site to grapple with issues that are relevant and important to them. The dancing is conceptual, and it's also dynamic, exciting, fun and athletic."

The student choreographers are:

  • Kailey Fraer, a senior dance major from Cranberry Township.
  • Lily Staib, a senior dance major from Pittsburgh.
  • Gianna Dobrich, a senior dance major from Erie.
  • Paula Rodríguez-Alvarez, a senior dance major from San Rafael, California.
  • Noelle Vitro, a senior dual dance and exercise science major from Payling, New York.
  • Rayna Halper, a senior dance major from Mars.
  • Summer Salos, a junior dance major from Stevensville, Maryland.
  • Stella Graditor, a junior dual dance and education major from Adamstown, Maryland.
  • Will VanSlander, a senior dance major from Saint Marys.
