Port of San Diego Earns National Budget Award for Second Consecutive Year

Once again, the Port of San Diego has proudly received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA), this time for its Fiscal Year 2027 Annual Budget. The Port joins nearly 2,000 other agencies that have been honored with the award for meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting.

"Our leadership and staff thoughtfully steward public funds to bring coastal access to those who live, work, and play in San Diego," said Chair Ann Moore, Port of San Diego Board of Port Commissioners. "To receive this honor for the second time reflects our sustained commitment to excellence with each line item. I am incredibly proud of the work we have accomplished while maintaining economic transparency and resiliency."

"We coordinate across the organization to ensure our funds support both our public tidelands and the Port of San Diego's diverse responsibilities," said Port of San Diego Chief Financial Officer Tracy Largent. "We have worked diligently to create budgets that effectively use available resources and balance the Port's needs. This award solidifies that we continue operating with excellence."

The budget award criteria include nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. The nomination process analyzes an entity's budget across four categories: as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide, and a communications device.

GFOA established the Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program (Budget Awards Program) in 1984 to encourage and assist state and local governments in preparing budget documents of the highest quality. Honorees must meet guidelines established by the National Advisory Council on State and Local Budgeting and demonstrate GFOA best practices in budgeting. Governments recognized through the program include states, cities, counties, special districts, and school districts that demonstrate transparency in budgeting.

The most recent Budget Award recipients, along with their corresponding budget documents, are posted quarterly on GFOA's website. Other California recipients include San Diego County, Santa Barbara County, and the Orange County Sanitation District.

GFOA advances excellence in government finance by providing best practices, professional development, resources, and practical research for more than 25,000 members and the communities they serve.
