Long Beach, CA - The City of Long Beach will open the popular inflatable "Wibit" aquatic playgrounds at Alamitos Beach and Bay Shore Avenue on Friday, June 13, 2025, offering residents and visitors of these Long Beach beaches free, family-friendly fun and active water play all summer long through Monday, Sept. 1.

"The return of the Wibit aquatic playgrounds is something families across Long Beach look forward to every summer," said Mayor Rex Richardson. "These free, fun and active amenities reflect our commitment to providing accessible recreation for all residents and visitors, right on our beautiful beaches."

The Alamitos Beach Wibit, located south of Ocean Boulevard and east of Shoreline Drive, features multiple floating play structures such as springboards, bouncers, monkey bars and other elements that encourage water play. The Bay Shore Avenue Wibit, located at 5415 East Ocean Blvd., includes multiple climbing structures, bouncers and domes. Long Beach Lifeguards will supervise the water play areas daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

"We're thrilled to welcome everyone back to the Wibit playground for another exciting summer season at Alamitos Beach," said Second District Councilwoman Cindy Allen. "These inflatable play structures offer a safe and engaging way for people of all ages to enjoy our Long Beach waterfront while climbing, jumping and having fun in the water."

"The Bay Shore Wibit at Alamitos Bay has become a beloved summer tradition in our community," said Third District Councilmember Kristina Duggan. "We continue to improve Alamitos Bay's recreational amenities, and we're proud to bring family-friendly activities that bring joy to our residents and visitors alike."

The following rules apply to all Wibit participants at both aquatic playground locations:

  • All participants (adults and children) are required to pass a swim test prior to accessing waterplay features.
  • Each child under 9 years of age must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.
  • Life jackets and personal floatation devices are not permitted while utilizing waterplay features.

Aquatic-based recreation is a naturally dangerous activity. The City encourages all users of the aquatic playground to exercise caution and abide by all posted rules. Using a water play structure is challenging and strenuous and the City assumes no liability or responsibility for injuries sustained while using the water play structures. Lifeguards are not guaranteed to be on duty if they are called to an emergency.

More information is available on the Wibit Aquatic Playgrounds webpage or by calling 562.570.3233.
