Keep Your Receipts

Anchorage, Alaska - If you are receiving money from FEMA for the October 2025 storms and flooding in Alaska, FEMA will send you a letter to explaining how you can use the funds for home repair, replacement and personal property. Keep your receipts for all disaster related costs. Survivors should only use FEMA grants for the expenses listed in their award letter, which may include:

Eligible Expenses for FEMA Grants

  • Home repair or replacement.
  • Reimbursement for temporary housing while being displaced.
  • Essential appliances, room furnishings and a personal or family computer damaged by the disaster.
  • Books, uniforms, tools, computers and other items required for school or work, including self-employment.
  • Funding toward the repair or replacement of your vehicle.
  • Medical expenses include supplies and equipment, moving and storage expenses.
  • Moving and storage expenses.
  • Lifesaving and life-sustaining items, including water, food, first aid, prescriptions, infant formula, breastfeeding supplies, diapers and personal hygiene items.
  • Subsistence equipment, snowmachines, stove oil, all-terrain vehicles, boats, smoke house, motors, fish wheel, etc., and fuel for transportation.

Continued Temporary Housing Assistance (CTHA) is a grant that provides rental assistance for survivors who cannot return to their damaged property after initial rental assistance ended.

If you receive CTHA, you will need your rental receipts showing your prior CTHA payment was used for temporary housing to continue to receive assistance.

Survivors should keep receipts of disaster spending for at least three years. This will help document how the money was used in case of an audit. FEMA cannot pay for duplicate disaster related expenses.

FEMA may ask survivors to return expenses that were not used as intended, and those survivors may not be eligible for assistance in future disasters.
