Shawn Britt is the new warden of Lumberton Correctional Institution. Britt previously served as the facility's associate warden of operations and acting warden.
"Warden Britt is an accomplished professional with 17 years of progressive leadership experience, about half of it at Lumberton Correctional," said Secretary of Adult Correction Leslie Cooley Dismukes. "He will be excellent warden."
As warden, Britt is in charge of all operations at the medium-custody facility for about 750 adult men.
Rehabilitative vocational and educational programs available there range from high school equivalency to horticulture, electrical and HVAC courses through Robeson Community College.
Britt began his career at Lumberton Correctional as a correctional officer in 2007. Promoted to sergeant in 2012, he transferred to Scotland Correctional Institution, where he advanced to lieutenant in 2015 and captain in 2019. He returned to Lumberton Correctional as associate warden in 2022.
A graduate of South Robeson High School, Britt is a member of the Special Operations Response Team (SORT) and serves as a general instructor for the team. He has participated in the Warden Exchange Program, gaining broader insight into correctional leadership across institutions, and has contributed to development and revision of Standard Operation Procedures and Post Orders, ensuring alignment with state policies and institutional goals. He holds Advanced Certification from the N.C. Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.
