Sacramento, CA - Assemblymember Diane Papan released the following statement today following the California State Assembly and State Senate's passage of critical emergency funding legislation to address the devastating impacts of the Los Angeles wildfires.
"Today, 'we' voted on a $2.5 billion wildfire relief and recovery package. This vote represents California at its best - bipartisan action standing together in the face of disaster and working fast to provide desperately needed relief," said Papan. "To all Los Angelenos, we hear you and we are there for you."
With the passage of Assembly Bills 4 and 5, the Legislature is delivering $2.5 billion in emergency funding to address immediate needs and lay the foundation for long-term recovery. This includes resources for evacuation efforts, sheltering survivors, hazardous waste removal, and the critical rebuilding of homes, schools, and infrastructure.
"I am proud to stand with my colleagues in the Legislature and with Governor Newsom in supporting this vital funding package," said Papan. "As we continue to face the growing threats of climate change, we must work tirelessly to mitigate these disasters and invest in the resilience of our communities. To the families and communities impacted by this tragedy, we stand with you."
The wildfires, which have destroyed more than 12,000 structures and caused extensive damage across Los Angeles, have led to a state of emergency declaration by the Governor. Assembly Bills 4 and 5 authorize immediate and sustained funding to support the disaster response, ensure the safety and health of impacted residents, and rebuild critical infrastructure and housing.
