COLUMBUS - The Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program (OSHIIP), part of the Ohio Department of Insurance, has launched its annual Medicare Checkup events to help Ohioans navigate Medicare's open enrollment, Oct. 15 through Dec. 7. During this period, Ohioans can review their current coverage and make plan selections for 2026.
OSHIIP, an award-winning program for its exceptional service, is offering both in-person and virtual events throughout the state. These sessions will cover the basics of Medicare, explain changes, and provide unbiased guidance on how to review and compare plans. Attendees will also learn about prescription drug coverage options, financial assistance programs, and strategies to reduce out-of-pocket costs.
Before Oct. 15, the events are focused on education, helping participants understand the Medicare landscape and prepare for enrollment. Once the enrollment period begins, OSHIIP will often include personalized plan comparisons and one-on-one counseling to assist individuals in making informed decisions. With Medicare plans changing each year, Ohioans should review benefits, costs, and coverage details carefully. Information on 2026 Medicare plans will be available starting Oct. 1 at medicare.gov.
Ohioans can find the schedule of in-person events, organized by county, as well as virtual event options at insurance.ohio.gov. The website also features an interactive calendar to book virtual one-on-one counseling sessions. OSHIIP representatives are also available at 800-686-1578 and [email protected] to provide assistance.
