Featuring Diondra Martinez, Missing Persons Clearinghouse Analyst with the New Mexico Department of Public Safety.
DPS: Hi Diondra! Tell me about your job at the Department of Public Safety and what makes you passionate about what you do?
Diondra: I am an analyst with the Missing Persons Unit here at DPS. We analyze all of the data that is inputted into the National Crime Information Center from local agencies about missing persons throughout the State of New Mexico. I am passionate about what I do because it gives the people that have missing loved ones reassurance that they are heard and seen.
DPS: What drew you to this role and how did you get started?
Diondra: I first started with DPS in the Criminal History Clearinghouse Unit almost two years ago. I started with Missing Persons in November of 2025. I have always been drawn to criminal justice as a teenager. Watching shows like Criminal Minds or Law & Order gave me insight into what people can do if given the chance to make a difference.
DPS: What are you most proud of - accomplishments?
Diondra: I'm most proud of earning my associate's degree in photography. I'm the first in my family to not only graduate from high school, but to also pursue and complete a college education. Choosing this path was deeply intentional - I wanted to create opportunities beyond those my parents and grandparents had, and to honor the sacrifices they made to give their children a better life.
DPS: What motivates you on the toughest days?
Diondra: I stay grounded by believing that something better is always ahead, no matter how difficult the day in front of me may be. Maintaining a positive attitude helps me push through even the toughest moments. Whether the challenge comes from personal struggles or the pressures of work, I remind myself that hard work pays off over time. Those efforts open the door to new opportunities - and ultimately lead to a better future for myself.
DPS: How has your role evolved since you first started?
Diondra: My role at DPS has evolved immensely since I started here. I am a problem solver so whatever task is set in front of me; I exceed expectations to the best of my ability. This has made me more reliable to staff and supervisors, so they have given me additional tasks and responsibilities, making me a more valuable employee.
DPS: How do you continue learning and growing professionally?
Diondra: I thrive when I have something to learn. By continuing to ask questions, I learn something new every day. Whether or not it pertains to a certain aspect of my job, it might be useful another time.
DPS: What advice would you give someone just starting their career?
Diondra: The advice I'd give to someone starting their career is to always do your best and never hesitate to ask questions when you're unsure. Don't be afraid of being curious - stay eager to learn, and keep questioning everything.
