Rep. Crockett Introduces The Payback Act to Refund Americans for Trump’s Illegal Tariff Costs

WASHINGTON, D.C -- Today, Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett (TX-30) introduced The Payback Act, legislation directing the Secretary of the Treasury to refund American consumers for increased costs caused by tariffs unlawfully imposed by Donald Trump.

The bill follows the Supreme Court's ruling in Learning Resources, Inc. v. Trump, which reaffirmed that the Constitution grants Congress-not the President-the authority to impose tariffs.

"These illegal tariffs drove up costs for American families. If Americans were forced to pay higher prices because of executive overreach, then Americans deserve to be paid back. It's that simple," said Rep. Crockett.

The Payback Act requires the Treasury to develop a transparent refund formula, issue payments through existing Treasury systems, and report to Congress on the Act's implementation.
