Chairman Cassidy Expands Child Care Fraud Investigation

WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA), Chairman of the U.S. Senate, Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, expanded his efforts to protect American families and taxpayers' dollars by rooting out the widespread fraud in federal child care funding. Cassidy previously investigated Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, and several others, including Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, Oregon Governor Tina Kotek, and New York Governor Kathy Hochul.

"Child care fraud is a nation-wide issue. We need to smoke it out everywhere," said Dr. Cassidy. "President Trump and I are committed to protecting families who pay into and rely on federally funded child care assistance programs."

Rhode Island, Delaware, North Carolina, and Georgia have high levels of waste with improper payment rates of 28.12 percent, 14.15 percent, 11.44 percent, and 15.89 percent, respectively. This amount of waste is entirely preventable. By contrast, Texas' rate of misspent dollars is only 0.4 percent.

As HELP Chairman, Cassidy is leading efforts to stop fraud in federal funding, launching a Committee task force and holding a hearing.
