Endowed scholarship honors late PA alumna Jessica Schavone

The Physician Assistant (PA) program has announced the establishment of the Jessica Schavone PA Memorial Endowed Scholarship, created by her husband, Nick Schavone, along with her family and friends to honor the life, legacy and compassionate spirit of 2021 Master of Physician Assistant Practice graduate.

"Campbell University played a defining role in shaping the provider Jessica became," said Schavone. "The Physician Assistant program gave her the knowledge, confidence, and sense of purpose that she carried into every exam room. This scholarship is our way of honoring the light she brought into the world while supporting future PA students who share her commitment to compassionate, whole-person care. We hope it helps students feel the same support, encouragement, and belief that Jessica found at Campbell."

Jessica Schavone died on June 19 at the age of 30.

The endowed scholarship will provide ongoing financial support to PA students pursuing their education and calling in healthcare, helping to reduce financial barriers within an intensive and demanding academic program. Endowed scholarships are especially critical in PA education, as they provide sustainable, long-term assistance that supports students year after year.

"Scholarships play a vital role in empowering PA students to fully focus on their academic and clinical training," said PA Program Chair and Director, Laura Gerstner ('24 DHSc). "The Jessica Schavone PA Memorial Endowed Scholarship both supports students on their educational journey and honors Jessica's lasting impact and commitment to caring for others."

The scholarship was formally announced during the recent PA Winter Gala, where attendees were invited to contribute in support of future PA students. Donations to the scholarship remain open and will directly benefit students preparing to enter the healthcare workforce.
