Aylett man sentenced to over five years in prison for possession of child sexual abuse material

RICHMOND, Va. - An Aylett man was sentenced today to five years and three months in prison for possession of child sexual abuse material (CSAM).

According to court documents, Shawn Travis Adams, 43, obtained thousands of CSAM files from a Russian website. Investigators searched Adams' residence and seized several electronic devices, including a laptop computer and an external hard drive. The hard drive contained at least 16,489 digital files of CSAM. The 7,532 still images and 8,957 videos included depictions of infants and toddlers. Several images depicted the sexual bondage of children.

Theophani K. Stamos, First Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, and Ian Kaufmann, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI's Richmond Field Office, made the announcement after sentencing by U.S. District Judge Roderick C. Young.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Brian R. Hood prosecuted the case.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
