Denver - Tuesday, October 13, 2026 - Today, the Denver Police Department shares a new program for the exchange of drivers' information for minor and non-injury crashes. Starting Thursday, October 15, drivers who are involved in a minor, non-injury crash where drugs and/or alcohol are not suspected, may use a web-based platform "Driver Exchange" to collect and share information regarding the crash and report it to Denver Police.
How it works:
"This program is being implemented to better serve the community, in that, it allows drivers to go about their days, rather than waiting for an officer to arrive," said Denver Police Chief Ron Thomas. "Additionally, it frees up officers so that they can respond to more urgent calls, which makes the city safer."
As winter approaches, this feature will be especially beneficial when the city is on "Crash Alert" due to inclement weather conditions and drivers involved in non-injury, non-impairment crashes. Drivers will still need to call police, but if circumstances allow, they will be given the Driver Exchange option to document crash details.
Also, if a driver does not have a license and/or registration, if a vehicle is immoveable, or drugs and/or alcohol are suspected, an officer will respond to the crash. Also, when opting to participate in the online driver exchange, please note - there will not be a police investigation, and no citation(s) will be issued.
Lastly, the service is free to DPD and drivers, thanks to CARFAX for Police.
