(Towson, MD) -Maryland Congressman Johnny Olszewski (MD-02) today released the following statement on the announced retirement of Dr. Myriam Rogers, who has led Baltimore County Public Schools since 2023:
"For more than three decades, Dr. Myriam Rogers has dedicated her life to expanding opportunity for students in public schools across Maryland. From the chemistry classroom to the principal's office and as superintendent, she led with an unwavering commitment to the success of the students, families and educators she served.
During my time as Baltimore County Executive, I valued Dr. Rogers' partnership and steady leadership. Together, we worked to streamline the school system's budget - eliminating waste while making strategic investments in our educators and in the long-term success of our students. We advanced school safety initiatives and celebrated the opening of new school buildings after decades of underinvestment in our infrastructure.
As a proud BCPS graduate, a former BCPS teacher and, now, a BCPS parent, I am personally grateful for Dr. Rogers' thoughtful leadership of our schools during a pivotal time. On behalf of Maryland's Second Congressional District, I extend my deepest thanks for her service and congratulate her on a well-earned retirement."
