Cedars-Sinai Acquires Beverly Connection to Meet Future Community Needs

For 50 years, Cedars-Sinaihas grown its main medical center campus on Beverly Boulevard to meet the healthcare needs of the Los Angeles region. As the organization plans for the next generation of care, the size of its existing campus limits the ability to best serve the community.

To meet Los Angeles' evolving healthcare needs, Cedars-Sinai has acquired the Beverly Connection shopping center one block east of the existing campus, the latest step in decades of evolution and growth.

"The strategic acquisition of the Beverly Connection will provide long-term options for Cedars-Sinai to revitalize our medical campus and provide the most advanced care to our patients and the community well into the next century," said Peter L. Slavin, MD, president and CEO of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and Cedars-Sinai Health System.

"We are excited by this opportunity to shape the future of healthcare in Los Angeles and leave an enduring mark on the city's wellbeing for generations to come," Slavin added.

Cedars-Sinai does not anticipate any changes in the near future at the Beverly Connection, whose stores and shops will continue to serve their customers.

The acquisition of the roughly 10-acre site is the latest move by Cedars-Sinai, and its predecessors previously, to strengthen the foundation of medical care in Los Angeles.

The modern-day Cedars-Sinai Medical Center opened in 1976, the result of a merger in the early 1960s between Cedars of Lebanon Hospital and Mount Sinai Hospital. Leaders of the two hospitals envisioned a major, modern medical center providing comprehensive clinical care and advancing medical research to serve the region's expanding population.

The current medical center-part of the broader Cedars-Sinai organization, with more than 17,000 employees and approximately 3,000 physicians on the medical staff-has grown into one of the nation's premier academic medical institutions. Cedars-Sinai is consistently recognized for the quality of its care and the contributions of its research as part of a four-part mission to heal, discover, educate and serve the community.

Cedars-Sinai is planning for the future much the way its predecessors at Cedars of Lebanon and Mount Sinai did more than seven decades ago, taking a strategic approach to the eventual uses of the Beverly Connection site.

"We're following leaders who did their homework and built an incredible medical center in the heart of Los Angeles," said David Wrigley, executive vice president of Finance and chief financial officer for Cedars-Sinai Health System. "The Beverly Connection is a prime location that deserves thoughtful planning to ensure we best meet the needs of Los Angeles and beyond for decades to come."
