Washington, D.C. - This week, Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, French Hill (AR-02), announced that Congressman Tom Emmer (MN-06) will serve as the Vice Chairman of the Subcommittee on Digital Assets, Financial Technology and Artificial Intelligence. Congressman Bryan Steil (WI-01) will serve as the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Digital Assets, Financial Technology and Artificial Intelligence.
"With President Trump in the White House, and Gary Gensler confined to the waste bin of Washington, we have an excellent opportunity to ensure that the future of digital assets is guided by Americans, with American values. I am honored to have been selected as Vice Chairman of the Subcommittee on Digital Assets, Financial Technology and Artificial Intelligence and look forward to working with Chairman Hill, Chairman Steil and the rest of our colleagues to foster an environment where digital asset innovation can thrive," Congressman Tom Emmer said.
"Majority Whip Emmer has been one of the leading voices in Congress on digital assets. We collaborated on the Anti-CBDC Surveillance Act in the 118th Congress and have worked closely together on a number of digital assets-related issues. Whip Emmer will be a strong addition to the leadership of the Digital Asset Subcommittee, and I look forward to watching Chairman Steil and the Whip continuing our important work in the digital asset and financial technology space for the 119th Congress," House Financial Services Chairman French Hill said.
Background
The 119th Congress marks Emmer's sixth term on the House Financial Services Committee. Emmer also served as a Co-Chair of the Congressional Blockchain Caucus, a position he has held since 2018. During the 116th Congress, Emmer served as the Republican leader of the Fintech Task Force, which was a precursor to the Subcommittee on Digital Assets, Financial Technology and Artificial Intelligence.
Emmer has introduced a suite of key pieces of bipartisan crypto legislation, including the Securities Clarity Act, which passed out of the House of Representatives as part of the FIT21 bill, the Blockchain Regulatory Certainty Act, and the Safe Harbor for Taxpayers with Forked Assets Act. Additionally, Emmer introduced the CBDC Anti-Surveillance State Act in 2021, establishing the Republican position on central bank digital currencies, and oversaw its passage in the House of Representatives in 2024.
As Majority Whip, Emmer has been closely involved in the crafting of landmark stablecoin and digital asset market structure legislation.
