Wellness Day Created Space for Rest and Community at BSU

Fall Wellness Day brought students, faculty and staff together on Nov. 14 at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Centerto focus on well-being during a busy point in the semester. The event offered activities that encouraged mindfulness, movement and time to connect with others.

The schedule included sound therapy sessions in the auditorium along with yoga and meditation that helped participants slow down and reset. Art therapy stations filled the second-floor lobby, where students used painting and drawing to express emotion and manage stress. Bingo games, line dancing and spades tournaments added energy to the center and created moments for the community to relax together.

Senior sociologymajor Jesse Kelly said the opportunity to pause had a meaningful impact on the day and helped him reconnect with peers. "Sometimes we get caught up in classes, work and everything happening around us," Kelly said. "Wellness Day reminded me how important it is to take a break and be present with the people around me."

The afternoon continued with more sound therapy and yoga and meditation sessions, along with a workshop on occupational wellness hosted by Maryland Credit Union. Graduate student Armando Miller said the atmosphere encouraged a sense of unity and support. "The whole event felt like a reset," Miller said. "You could feel the community coming together, which is what makes Bowie special."

Fall Wellness Day reinforced the importance of mental health, community care and intentional rest as essential parts of student success.
