Upcoming Projects

Committees will be considering the following projects this fall. Meeting information will be posted to https://www.acus.gov/meetings-and-events/calendar.

• The Committee on Adjudication will consider Frontline Decision Making in the Adjudication of Applications. This project identifies best practices for frontline decision making in the adjudication of benefits, loans, grants, licenses, and other applications in which there is a later opportunity for an evidentiary hearing.
• The Committee on Rulemaking will consider General Permits and Permits by Rule. This project examines agencies' use of general permits and permits by rule and will provide recommendations to improve the fairness, accuracy, efficiency, timeliness, and transparency in the granting of permission to undertake regulated activities.
• The Committee on Administration and Management will consider Improving Transparency in the Review of Applications for Licenses and Permits. This project examines what information about pending license and permit applications agencies make publicly available and how they do so.
• The Committee on Regulation will consider Regulatory Warnings. This project examines the circumstances under which agencies issue regulatory warnings

Remembering Senior Fellow Neil R. Eisner

ACUS mourns the passing of Senior Fellow Neil R. Eisner, a distinguished and dedicated member of ACUS for three decades. Mr. Eisner served as an ACUS Government Member for the U.S. Department of Transportation from 1982 to 1995, and more recently as a Senior Fellow since 2010. During his time at ACUS, Mr. Eisner chaired the former Committee on Government Processes and the Committee on Rulemaking. He also participated in various working groups and never hesitated to volunteer his expertise and time. His colleagues at ACUS will remember him for his many contributions to both the agency's work and the greater administrative law community, as well as his unwavering commitment to public service.

ACUS Internships

ACUS hosts law school interns throughout the year. Interns work closely with supervising staff attorneys to conduct legal research, analysis, and writing. Assignments commonly include research into specific questions of administrative or regulatory procedures and policy; preparation of legal memoranda; and compiling and summarizing legal developments and data that support various ACUS projects. Throughout their time at ACUS, interns are exposed to a range of topics within administrative and regulatory law and have opportunities to participate in ACUS-sponsored events and interact with professionals from different administrative agencies and fields of expertise. Interns are also encouraged to pursue independent research that relates to ACUS's mission. Applications are considered on a rolling basis.
