Following the COVID-19 pandemic, virtual care and telehealth have become viable options for real, effective treatment for mental health. Recent studies have shown support for virtual care for intensive outpatient (IOP) mental health programs designed for adults struggling with a range of issues including depression and anxiety.
Endeavor Health is launching a new virtual IOP STEP-Skills Training Enhancement Practice Program designed for adults who are seeking mental health support while engaging in regular responsibilities including work and caring for families.
We're offering this unique service for members of our community who can't take a whole day away from work or child care or for those who are challenged with transportation or other physical limitations.
This program helps us expand accessibility for crucial mental health care, addressing many barriers that can prevent people from receiving the professional support they need.
A fully virtual program built around skill-building
While we have offered some hybrid programs in the past the new STEP will be 100 percent virtual and will meet in the late afternoons Monday through Thursday, providing a very cohesive and supportive group atmosphere.
The new program will focus on teaching vital coping skills and ways to actively apply them in everyday life outside of treatment. Leaning heavily on demonstrated benefits of group therapy, the program will foster group rapport and draw on proven curriculum for adult mental health services.
Not appropriate for people with active symptoms of psychosis or suicidal ideation, the STEP program is meant for adults functioning well enough to meet daily responsibilities, with the capacity to learn new skills, yet whose symptoms are still bothersome and may regularly disrupt their quality of life.
Virtual STEP patients will benefit from more than weekly outpatient care, but do not require daily in-person treatment or monitoring.
Group therapy that meets patients where they are
We understand that a growing number of people need a little extra help and can benefit greatly from learning these tools and how to consistently bring them to practice in their home lives and interpersonal interactions and relationships.
Our staff is passionate about group therapy and experienced in the positive dynamics of this proven care format. As a behavioral health system, we were quick to adapt during the pandemic and we know patients found virtual care to be a positive experience. We understand there are differences in virtual programming, but we have experience to help maintain a sense of connection and care between our providers and group members.
We invite patients to refer themselves for program assessment and know that we will receive expedited referrals from physicians and caregivers throughout our community.
