WASHINGTON, D.C. - President Trump signed an Executive Order limiting the rights of States to to regulate the use of AI. The Consumer Federation of America released the following statement:
"The efforts at prohibiting state regulation of AI have repeatedly failed in Congress because regardless of the form, it is an unpopular, undemocratic, and dangerous idea," said Ben Winters, Director of AI and Data Privacy. "This Executive Order is a last-ditch effort to prop up Big Tech and try to save them from having to comply with commonsense rules when fair methods have consistently failed. It's unworkable - striving only to punish and intimidate state lawmakers that want to protect their constituents and give yet another gift to the tech industry. This effort and every future attempt at moratoria should be soundly rejected."
