How to add corrections to YouTube videos

Creators know the feeling: You toil over a video, get it exactly the way you want it, hit publish, and watch it go live… only to realize you made a mistake! You got a name or place wrong, fact or spec, misspoke or just plain messed up. And right then, wow, do you wish you could fix it without having to make it private and take it down, and then re-edit and re-post a an update. Well, you can!

  1. Go to YouTube Studio
  2. Select Content
  3. Pick the video you want to add the correction to
  4. Go to the description field
  5. Start a new line in the description, typically at the bottom but anywhere you like
  6. Type Correction: or Corrections: (Yes, it currently has to be in English regardless of the language you want to use in the actual correction)
  7. Type in the timestamp for where you want the correction to appear (just like you would for a chapter), and then add some text to explain the correction. For example: "1:00: This happened in 2011, not 2010"
  8. If you have multiple corrections, add new lines, timestamps, and text for each of them
  9. Hit Save when you're done

Once the correction is saved, whenever someone watches the video going forward, and get to a time stamp with a correction, they'll see an info overlay popup. If they hit the info box, they'll be taken to the correction entry in the description
